Drone Interface

Originally, I wasn't planning on posting on eve initiative. The sole point of it's creation was to display my designs. After seeing what the "finished" product looked like it felt like there was something missing. So I tried to think of some different eve related hype stories I could write about... meanwhile there are plenty of well produced news-sites, blogs and podcasts that will do a better job of getting you the juice on the larger EVEverse at hand.

Instead, I thought it would be interesting to spotlight some game concepts that have been tossed around by friends and forums.

For my first attempt I want to look at a quality of life issue. The drone interface. This is nothing new. Complaints from New Eden regarding the drone UI have been circling the forums for some time now. If you have flown a drone boat recently then you are painfully aware of how clunky and 'click' intensive that can be. So let's throw around some ideas.

1 - When you group your drones a new option becomes available for an "active squadron".
2 - Select the desired group you want to be "active". A mark appears next to your active squadron in the drone bay window. (top right)
3 - Upon choosing your active squadron a new button appears on your HUD. This new button is your initial drone launch & attack button. (bottom mid)

That's pretty much the idea, pretty simple. Let me clarify a few parts of the pitch so I don't get angry emails.
The "drone launch & attack button" would make your drones more like every other weapon system. You could still change which drones you want to be active mid fight or launch drones manually as it is now. (almost like changing ammo types). At least you have a "quick fire button"  like everyone else. Also, I believe it is necessary to keep the original drone quick commands (attack, orbit, return to drone bay) for other tactics.

This is only one idea to ease the pain. I know there are others, and more that could be done from CCP. Please feel free to leave other ideas in the comments.
